FAQS

AREAS OUR AGENCY SERVES

We take the stress out of finding reliable child care and nanny services in all areas of Connecticut including West Hartford, Farmington, and Avon

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MATCH A FAMILY WITH A NANNY?

The duration of the nanny search process can vary depending on each family’s unique circumstances. While some families may choose to hire the first candidate they meet, others prefer to meet multiple candidates before making a decision. On average, the search process typically takes anywhere from 1-6 weeks. To ensure a thorough and well considered decision, we recommend allowing yourself a minimum of 4 weeks. This timeframe allows you to have enough time to review and assess potential candidates without feeling rushed or pressured to make a quick decision. By giving yourself this timeframe, you can make a more informed choice that aligns with your family’s needs and preferences.

WHAT IS THE GOING RATE FOR A FULL TIME NANNY?

At The Marla Lane Nanny Agency, we believe in recognizing the invaluable contributions of our dedicated and loving Nannies. We strive to ensure fair and competitive wages that reflect their expertise, professional experience, educational background, and the specialized care they provide.

In Connecticut, we understand the importance of offering competitive compensation to attract and retain top-tier talent. Thats why we offer wages ranging from $20-30 per hour for exceptional nannies. For those with specialized skills in caring for special needs and newborns, we recognize the unique demands of their roles and offer wages starting at $25 per hour and above.

We do not set the salaries. We will work with families and the nanny to determine an appropriate compensation.

HOUSEHOLD EMPLOYEE
TAX INFO

Legally, your nanny is entitled to a W-2 and NOT a 1099.

Oftentimes parents make the mistake of classifying their nanny as an independent contractor when nannies are, under no circumstances, independent contractors. Misclassifying your nanny can result in audits from the IRS and hefty fines, so it's not worth the risk.

If you hire domestic employee, you are required to pay and withhold social security and Medicare taxes.

You will have to obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) as well as provide each employee with a W-2 no later than January 31st .If you have an accountant or payroll service to help you out, filing taxes for domestic employees should be easy. However, if it’s your first time working with domestic employees, the rules and regulations can be a lot to take in. Make sure to avoid these common situations and consider working with an experienced advisor to make sure that filing your taxes goes smoothly.

We understand that navigating household employee taxes can be overwhelming! We have proudly partnered with GTM Payroll Services and Homework Solutions to help serve families better!
